INFORMATION FOR THE PUBLIC UNDER THE REGULATION ON THE PREVENTION AND REDUCTION OF THE EFFECTS OF MAJOR INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS_GEBZE FACILITY

Kayalar Kimya Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. – Gebze Factory is classified as a lower-tier establishment under the Regulation on the Prevention of Major Accidents and the Mitigation of Their Consequences. In accordance with Article 16 of the Regulation, the following information is made available to the public.

PART 1

1. Name of the Operator and Full Address of the Establishment

2. Status of the Establishment Under the Regulation

The establishment is subject to the provisions of the Regulation on the Prevention of Major Accidents and the Mitigation of Their Effects. The notification required under Article 7 of the Regulation has been submitted through the notification system of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Based on the notification submitted, the establishment has been classified as a lower-tier establishment. In accordance with Article 10 of the Regulation, a Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP) has been prepared and is implemented.

3. Activities Carried Out at the Establishment

Kayalar Kimya Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. – Gebze Factory manufactures solvent-based mixtures, copolymer emulsions, antifreeze and de-icing products, surface cleaning solutions, synthetic thinners, and other chemical products.

4. Dangerous Substances That May Give Rise to a Major Accident

The establishment contains dangerous substances classified under the physical, health and environmental hazard categories specified in Annex I of the Regulation. These substances include raw materials, resins and finished products that may give rise to a major accident.

Their principal hazardous properties are as follows:

Flammable substances: May cause fire and explosion.

Substances hazardous to human health: May cause harmful effects through inhalation, ingestion or skin contact.

Substances hazardous to the environment: May cause adverse effects on the environment, particularly the aquatic environment, if released.

Information relating to the dangerous substances handled at the establishment is available in the Hazardous Material Emergency Response Cards, which are maintained for emergency response purposes.

5. Information on the Actions to Be Taken in the Event of a Major Accident

In the event of a major accident, response activities will be carried out in accordance with the establishment’s Emergency Response Plan. Where the consequences of the accident exceed the response capability of the establishment, the competent public authorities will be notified immediately. Emergency response activities will then be coordinated by the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate (AFAD) in accordance with the applicable emergency management procedures. Members of the public should follow the instructions and warnings issued by the competent authorities, avoid the affected area and, where instructed, promptly comply with evacuation or shelter-in-place measures.
